Commuter Convoy

Get ready for two incredible biking events. Bike to Work Day takes place on Friday, May 21, followed by Bike DC on Sunday, May 23. Roll out your bike, or rent one, and take advantage of the new Pennsylvania Avenue bike lanes.

Thousands of bicyclists, veterans and novices alike, are scheduled to celebrate bicycling as an alternative way to get to work as part of Bike to Work Day festivities. Cyclists are encouraged to meet up at one of 35 pit stops all over the Metro region, ride into the city with experienced commuter convoys and converge with fellow cyclists at Freedom Plaza on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Join in the fun. Food, drinks, prizes—including commuter bags, bike locks, and bicycles—a raffle and much more will be offered at all pit stops. Registration is free, and the first 8,500 cyclists to register will receive a free Bike to Work Day T-Shirt. Click here for more information.

Bike DC is another not-to-be-missed opportunity. Bikers will be able to enjoy a leisurely car-free ride along Pennsylvania Avenue between 7th and 14th Streets, or take a noncompetitive 19-mile ride that ends in Arlington, Virginia. Two short cuts that reduce the total miles to 10 is another option. All are invited to participate and support healthy lifestyles and family fun and bask in the free morning activities and entertainment. America’s Main Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from 7:00 am to 10:30 am. Click here for more information.

The Downtown BID is proud to support both events.
