Good news for the DC Circulator: riders continue to love it! An annual Customer Satisfaction Survey shows that 86% of all riders were very satisfied or somewhat satisfied with the popular transit system, and 99.3% said they would recommend the bus line to others. Overall, the Circulator not only excels in customer satisfaction, but is used by diverse groups, and plays an important role in the city’s transit system as well as its efforts to support a car-free environment.

Among other findings:

  • 61% of riders use the bus for business or work; 36% for leisure; and 7% for school.
  • 57% of riders are age 18-34, while 22% are age 35-49.
  • 44% earn less than $40,000 a year; 37% earn between $40,000 and $80,000; and 18% earn more than $80,000.
  • 46% of riders are Caucasian, 31% are African American, and 11% are Hispanic.

DC Surface Transit, Inc. (DCST), a nonprofit that includes the DowntownDC BID and its organizational partners, oversees Circulator marketing and conducts the survey annually to measure the bus system’s operational and marketing performance. This year’s survey had 15 questions and was conducted in June during all days and hours of service on each route to obtain a representative sample of system ridership. The feedback serves as a valuable resource for understanding customers’ transit needs.
