Guess who ranked among the 10 most bikeable, large U.S. cities? Yes, D.C. A new ranking by Bike Score, the leading measure of neighborhood walkability, shows the city placed sixth—ahead of Seattle, Tucson, New York and Chicago, all tough competitors. All cities were scored based on infrastructure and accessibility (bike lanes and trails) as well as hilliness, road connectivity, and the number of cyclists on city streets. D.C. received a score of 65 out of 100. Not bad, considering the Top 5 contenders—Portland, Ore.; San Francisco; Denver; Philadelphia; and Boston—didn’t qualify as a “biker’s paradise,” which would have given them a score between 90 and 100. Who did succeed? Among smaller cities, Cambridge, Mass., with a score of 92. Our neighbor to the south, Arlington, ranked among the most bikeable smaller cities as well. Congrats!
