Take The Challenge—the DC Smarter Business Challenge, that is—by Friday, March 29!

Here’s the deal: On February 20, Mayor Vincent Gray launched the Sustainable DC Plan, which lays out a 20-year strategy to make Washington, D.C., the nation’s most sustainable city. Mayor Gray called out the Smarter Business Challenge as an integral part of this effort for the city’s commercial building sector. The Challenge is a collaboration between the District Department of the Environment and the DowntownDC BID’s ecoDistrict. It helps businesses and buildings identify and implement smart sustainability measures in areas such as waste reduction, energy efficiency, transit access, water management, procurement, and other matters where business sense and sustainability priorities intersect.

To date, 11 businesses—representing 45 buildings and more than 11 million square feet of commercial space—have registered to take The Challenge. These early adopters include the following companies and organizations: Akridge (601 13th Street), the American Society of Landscape Architects (636 I Street), Boston Properties, Brookfield Office Properties, Cassidy Turley, the DowntownDC BID, JBG, OTJ Architects (1412 I Street), Tower Companies and Transwestern.
