The Humanities Council of Washington, DC, wants Washingtonians to better understand the ties that bind them—such as music, literature, history, religion, and language. This is why the private, nonprofit organization is seeking proposals for the new Who’s a Washingtonian? grant, which will help fund projects that “actively seek to spark dialogue between groups of residents” who, historically, have been isolated from one another either geographically or culturally. Some of the projects eligible for funding: documentary films, oral histories, walking tours, exhibits, lectures, conferences, festivals, and children’s programs. The grant amount is $5,000, but because this is a matching gift, it requires a 1:1 ratio, in the form of cash or an in-kind donation. Note the deadline to submit a proposal is Sunday, September 1. Free grant workshops were held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 18 and Tuesday, July 23, at the Takoma Park and Cleveland Park Libraries, respectively. Additional workshops will take place from noon to 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on July 25 at the Humanities Council, located at 925 U Street, NW. For more information, email grants@wdchumanities.org.
