Non car owners take note: DC now has three different car sharing programs. Since the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) opened the door to additional car-sharing firms last summer, Hertz on Demand and car2go have joined Zipcar (403 8th Street) on city curbsides. Hertz on Demand launched its service here in February and offers traditional, green Smart Electric, and plug-in hybrid vehicles at Union Station, Reagan National Airport and other DC locations. Car2go followed in March with its blue and white Smart Fortwo vehicles, located throughout the city. Not to be outdone, Zipcar now offers additional cars and—something new—Zipvans.
