Who’s your hero? If you’re a resolute baseball fan, right about now you’re probably chanting LivingSocial’s (1445 New York Avenue) name. The online daily deals company hit a homerun with the Washington Nationals and baseball fans throughout the Washington metropolitan area when it volunteered to fund late-night Metrorail service for team playoff games in October and November. How cool is that? Real cool, if you ask Nats devotees, who are now guaranteed a way to get home after Metrorail’s normal closing time. LivingSocial, in the business of creating great local experiences, will help create memorable ones for thousands of baseball enthusiasts who are likely to sing their praises forever. After all, the Nats have brought postseason baseball to DC for the first time in nearly 80 years! The company will underwrite at least one hour and up to two hours of extended Metrorail service for all rides—Sunday through Thursday night—originating from the Navy Yard-Ballpark Metrorail station during the playoffs. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMTA) already provides service until 3:00 am on Friday and Saturday nights. OK, fess up, who’s still jumping for joy?
