The National Park Service’s (NPS) National Capital Region Regional Director Bob Vogel recently spoke with the DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) about the partnership effort to renovate and reimagine Franklin Park and why NPS depends on partners for its success.

NPS is partnering with the District of Columbia and the DowntownDC BID to renovate the park, located at I & 13th streets NW, and to create a management and operations system to support its continued success well into the future.

“We hope it will be a national model for what we can do to transform a tired but important civic space to an exciting, vibrant, happening place,” Vogel said of Franklin Park.

Franklin Park is downtown’s largest green space and is a valuable asset to the BID and the community. NPS recently completed its environmental impact study for the park and released its preferred alternative design.

To provide background and updates on the Franklin Park project, the BID has set up a Franklin Park revitalization webpage. To access park documents, timelines and resources, please click here.
