How do you fit parking for ten people into a parking space for one car?

Watch the DowntownDC Business Improvement District’s (BID) time-lapse video to see how it’s done!!

The DowntownDC BID, in conjunction with the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and BicycleSPACE made this parking transformation a reality throughout Downtown earlier this month as they installed four in-street bike corrals. Each bike parking corral is the size of one car parking space and accommodates 10 bikes.

Four Downtown locations for the corrals were identified in partnership with DDOT: 6th & I streets NW, 7th & G streets NW, 7th & E streets NW and 7th & D streets NW. Three corrals were installed in places where there is currently no car parking (next to street intersections at the end of a parking row) and one corral occupies a space that was previously utilized for car parking.

This brings Downtown’s total in-street bike parking spaces to 78!
