Earlier this month, the First Congregational United Church of Christ (UCC) held its first Sunday morning worship service in its new church building at 10th and G Streets in Downtown. The church occupies the second floor and part of the ground floor in an elegant mixed-use development that includes Class A office space, retail space and underground parking. Over the past five years, its congregation has been worshiping Sunday afternoon’s in nearby First Trinity Lutheran Church (309 E Street). Last week, the church, along with Skanska USA Commercial Development Inc., the US subsidiary of the global Swedish-based construction firm Skanska, received DowntownDC BID Momentum Awards for the unique 10-story, glass building, which was the only Downtown office project to break ground over the two years ending in March 2011. The building is Skanska’s first investment in the US.
