Workout Wednesdays in the Park

A cool breeze and great expectations for merging fun and fitness brought 55 people to the third DowntownDC BID Workout Wednesdays exercise palooza in Franklin Park. A fast-paced Zumba workout had everyone moving and grooving—and, at times, straight-out laughing (you had to be there to see the moves!). The instructors were lively, the vibes great and the heat subdued. Come join the BID and our partners—Freshii (1005 E Street), Crunch Fitness (555 12th Street) and City Sports (715 7th Street)—for the BLT (Buns, Legs and Thighs) class on July 31.

Freshii (1005 E Street) once again provided free water and fruit, and even offered up roasted red pepper hummus and pita chips for the hardworking Workout Wednesdays participants. Going forwarding, the Crunch Fitness team will continue to teach a different exercise class each Wednesday through September 25, and City Sports will provide information on athletic attire and equipment.

There were freebies galore. Besides Freshii, the BID giveaways included water bottles, T-shirts and towels. City Sports gave away a cooling towel and 20% off coupons. Crunch offered a free class for the evening’s “workout star,” while Freshii also gave away a $20 gift card, and Teaism (400 8th Street)—a contributor—offered a $15 coupon. Freebies and fun, what more can you ask for?!

The weekly exercise meet up takes place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on 13th Street between I and K streets in Franklin Park. A robust pound class got participants tapping sticks and stretching during the kickoff on July 10. And with summer boot camp and Zumba checked off the list, we’ll see how everyone fares during the BLT class! We’ll keep you posted on the list of workouts scheduled for August and September.

Remember: register on Facebook to enter to win the weekly prize giveaway, which will be distributed after each class. Also, if you don’t like stretching on the grass bring a mat. Hope to see you there!
