Washington, D.C. – It’s Marvel Mania this summer as the DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) once again transforms Freedom Plaza (13th and Pennsylvania Avenue NW) into an outdoor movie experience with DowntownDC Summer Flicks: Can I Kick It?
This free movie series brings SHAOLIN JAZZ’s Can I Kick It? concept outdoors on Tuesday nights this summer, offering attendees of all ages a unique music and moviegoing experience curated live by DJ 2-Tone Jones. This year’s theme is Marvel!
“We are excited be bringing back DowntownDC Summer Flicks for a third season, transforming the landmark of Freedom Plaza into an outdoor movie theater and place of community for all to enjoy, ” said DowntownDC BID President & CEO Neil Albert.
Attendees can come early for free programming, to snag an inflatable or cold treat provided by Sandy Springs Bank, listen to a live DJ set, play outdoor games or win DowntownDC Swag. On select nights Pret a Manger to offer complimentary sea salt popcorn or kettle corn. Show your Eventbrite registration and receive a free drink, or cookie with your purchase at Potbelly, 1299 Pennsylvania Ave NW starting at 6pm.
The series will run for six Tuesday nights from June 4-July 9. Pre-movie activities begin on the plaza at 7:30pm. Movies start at 8:30pm.

SHAOLIN JAZZ is a boutique creative group, founded by Gerald Watson and DJ 2-Tone Jones, that specializes in the development of content and production of multimedia engagements that highlights the cultural parallels and similarities between hip-hop, jazz, and martial arts. SHAOLIN JAZZ also serve as a transmedia consultancy for brands and agencies.
The BID is working in partnership with the U.S. National Park Service to activate and beautify the site of Freedom Plaza, at 13 Street & Pennsylvania Avenue NW.
