Host Hotels & Resorts, Inc. of Bethesda, Maryland, purchased the 888-room Grand Hyatt Washington, DC (1000 H Street) last month. The hospitality real estate company sealed the deal for $400 million, or about $450,450 per room, after terminating plans to acquire the 25-year-old property for $442 million in December. The Grand Hyatt is located directly across the street from the massive CityCenterDC mixed-use project now underway and is in the midst of renovations, including an overhaul of guestrooms, totaling about $30 million. The timing couldn’t be better. The hotel, and others nearby, is certain to benefit from the crowds expected for the Presidential Inauguration in January.
