Washington, D.C. – The DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) will host its annual DowntownDC Momentum Awards on Thursday, Dec. 3 at 4:30 pm, in a first-ever virtual format.
The 2020 Momentum Awards will air on www.downtowndc.org/momentum2020, allowing attendees to join the celebration from the comfort of their homes.
This annual event honors people, projects and partnerships that stood out for their ability to enrich DowntownDC over the past year. Awards will be presented in eight categories to visionaries who’ve made significant contributions to maintaining the vibrancy of DowntownDC, and embody what it means to be “DowntownDC Resilient,” including Mayor Muriel Bowser, the DowntownDC Person of the Year.
“We are grateful to be back hosting the Momentum Awards and honoring the people and places who helped the DowntownDC community persevere through this unprecedented year,” said BID President & CEO Neil Albert. “Even though we are unable to gather in person, we are excited to make this year’s Momentum Awards viewable to our amazing community and stakeholders.”
The BID will also recognize an event, entity or idea, with the DowntownDC Experience of the Year Award, which is selected by public vote. The nominees include:
- Black Lives Matter Plaza
- “Murals that Matter: Activism through Public Art”
- St. John’s Episcopal Church Mural Activation
- DowntownDC Dine Out
- Cuba Libre Parklet
The DowntownDC Experience of the Year Award winner will be announced at the Momentum Awards ceremony on Dec. 3 at 4:30 pm.
In addition to honoring these award winners, the 2020 Momentum Awards will feature several additional people, places and organizations who went above and beyond to help others impacted by the novel coronavirus pandemic in a special “DowntownDC Resilient” feature.
