Donald Trump Eyeing FBI Headquarters

Could “The Donald” be making a bid for the J. Edgar Hoover Building (935 Pennsylvania Avenue)?

According to Capital Business, the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s mammoth, fortress-like headquarters has caught the eye of Donald Trump, now in the process of developing the historic Old Post Office Building and Pavilion Annex (1100 Pennsylvania Avenue) into a 271-room luxury hotel.

The 2.4 million square foot Hoover building sits atop a 6.66-acre square block. But it is outdated and overcrowded. Late last year, the General Services Administration sought to change the building’s fortunes, issuing a Request for Information from developers. As the government agency that handles real estate, GSA asked developers to submit ideas for building a new FBI building in another spot. In exchange, after it issues a Request for Proposals and goes through the lengthy selection process, the GSA is willing to swap the current headquarters building and land, prime real estate that could be used to create a more vibrant and inviting urban core.

The GSA has been gauging interest, as—evidently—has Trump. The agency will reportedly look for a private sector partner later this year. When that time arrives, all eyes will (once again) be focused on The Donald to determine if he will or won’t enter the bidding process.

One thing’s certain: there’s never a dull moment in Downtown DC
