Recognizing the extraordinary value of large, healthy trees in the city’s urban core, the Casey Tree Endowment Fund, the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) and the DC Urban Forestry Administration have formed a new business and environmental partnership to educate and involve property owners and managers in the care and stewardship of downtown trees.

Three maple trees will be planted Tuesday morning in the heart of the Downtown Business District by Casey Trees and the red and white- uniformed SAMS of the Downtown BID as part of the announcement of the initiative to grow larger, healthier trees downtown.

Across the country, urban environments present some of the harshest conditions anywhere for trees. A typical city tree only lives 7-10 years, which is not long enough to maximize the shade and air pollution removal benefits that large trees provide.
