Fashion was the hot topic of the night on Sept. 30 in DowntownDC at the DC Commission on Fashion Arts and Events (CFAE)”DC is Fashion” event held in the beautiful ground floor space at Covington (850 10th Street) at CityCenterDC.
The event brought together the fashion, beauty and economic development communities to share ideas, best practices, discuss trends and compare both creative and retail status. The Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development Brian T. Kenner delivered the evening’s opening remarks in which he expressed his excitement for the progress of CFAE, the mission of which is to position Washington, DC as an emerging market for the fashion and beauty industry. Kenner also discussed his support for D.C.’s fashion industry and his hopes for its future progress.
CFAE Budget and Finance Committee Chair Christine Brooks-Cropper hosted the event along with her keynote speakers and fellow CFAE commissioners Alida Sanchez, Mariessa Terrell, Kristopher Johnson-Hoyle, Brandon Andrews and Jackie Rodgers-Hart. Each spoke about their experiences with CFAE, their roles and their plans to bring more awareness to the indie fashion industry in D.C. They mentioned the need for fashion education in the school system, college preparatory courses on fashion and funding for small, local businesses and support to help small businesses secure store fronts in their own neighborhoods.
The DowntownDC BID was a proud sponsor of the CFAE “DC is Fashion” event.
