Enjoy jazz outdoors in the DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) April 27-29 in Pershing Park!
The Blues Alley Jazz Society’s 12th Annual Big Band Jam! brings jazz events to venues across the city, including a three-day outdoor concert series in DowntownDC at Pershing Park, located at 14th and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, adjacent to Freedom Plaza. The Pershing Park performances will run daily April 27-29 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm and will include area school jazz bands, master classes with D.C. native Andrew White, renowned musician, educator, composer and arranger and expert on John Coltrane, this year’s Big Band Jam! honoree.
Pershing Park is one of DowntownDC’s National Park Service public parks and is home to a unique landscape featuring a sunken plaza, waterfall and amphitheatre-style seating. The park was named for General John J. Pershing, an officer in the United States Army during World War I, later promoted to General of the Armies. Pershing Park was constructed in conjunction with neighboring Freedom Plaza and opened to the public in 1981.
The DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) is a proud sponsor of the Big Band Jam!’s Pershing Park concert series.

Big Band Jam! is a non-profit organization that promotes youth, jazz and education. This annual event allows jazz lovers to come together for peer-to-peer performance and review and has turned into a yearly jazz legacy tribute and artist-in-residency event.
