Metro Wants to Hear From You

Metro is inviting the public to provide feedback on its proposed fiscal year 2018 operating budget, which includes proposed fare adjustments and rail and bus service adjustments. We encourage you to share your thoughts and opinions with Metro before the comment period closes at 9 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 6.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is facing a large budget deficit for the upcoming fiscal year. In order to close that budget gap, WMATA has proposed a series of fare increases and service cuts for both rail and bus service. These cuts are in addition to WMATA’s decision to end late night rail service for at least another two years.

Proposed fare increases include:

• $0.10 increase for peak rail fares
• $0.25 increase for off-peak rail fares
• $0.25 increase for Metrobus fares (new fare will be $2.00 per ride)

Proposed service cuts include decreasing rail service during rush hours, off-peak hours, and on weekends. Metro has also proposed eliminating several bus routes.

• Take the online survey This survey may also be downloaded, filled out and dropped in a survey collection bin near the faregates at any Metrorail station.
• Provide feedback to staff at Metrorail Stations between Jan. 23 – Jan. 30. * Click here for a full list of locations and times.
• Attend a Jan. 30 open house from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and/or the Jan. 30 public hearing beginning at 5 p.m. at Metro Headquarters. Speaker registration is onsite only.
