The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is rolling out a new parkDC pay-by-space parking system this week in the Chinatown-Penn Quarter area of DowntownDC designed to streamline the process of paying for parking in some of the BID’s most in-demand parking areas.

Drivers will no longer have to wait to print a receipt from the kiosk and display it on their dashboard, saving parking time.

The new method requires drivers to park in a defined space, note the four or five-digit number listed on the parking space marker and then enter that number in a sidewalk payment kiosk. Users can still access Parkmobile on their mobile devices to pay for parking. Now, they will need to enter their zone as well as their space number.

“Paying for parking will be much more efficient,” said DDOT Director Leif Dormsjo. “Each space now has a unique number and is defined by the space marker posts. Just enter the number and pay for your space.”

The pilot area, which encompasses about 1,000 parking spaces, extends from H Street on the north to E Street on the south and from 11th Street on the west to 3rd Street on the east. The area includes the following downtown attractions:

Verizon Center
601 F St NW, Washington, DC 20004

Smithsonian American Art Museum and National Portrait Gallery
8th St NW & F St NW, Washington, DC 20001

National Building Museum
