Where Should the BID Add Bike Parking in DowntownDC? Tell Us!

Would you like more bicycle parking in front of your business or office in DowntownDC?

Now is your chance to help the DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) pick locations for the next round of bike parking installations. The BID in cooperation with the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is installing parking racks for 100 bicycles in public space.

The BID’s list of places in need of parking is compiled from various sources including via input from DDOT and downtown patrons about locations where short term bicycle parking is needed. The BID has surveyed the area to find locations where cyclists are already making their own bike parking by locking their bicycles to parking meters, street signs or other immovable street or sidewalk infrastructure.

The DowntownDC BID is a 138-block area from 16th street to the west to North Capitol on the east and from Massachusetts Avenue on the north (including the Walter E. Washington Convention Center) to Constitution Avenue on the south.

The BID is accepting location suggestions through July 22 for this year’s round of bike parking installations.

In January, the BID completed a three-year plan with DDOT to nearly double the number of bike parking spaces in DowntownDC from 531 in 2012 to 964.
