Fri. June 3, 2016

Dear DowntownDC Stakeholder:

Yesterday, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the city’s interim plan to help address potential congestion and mobility challenges during the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) year-long SafeTrack maintenance and repair program for Metrorail, which will begin on June 4.

The District Department of Transportation’s (DDOT) mitigation plan includes the following:

  • The formation of a citywide Traffic Operations and Control Center
  • Increased Roadway Operations Patrol staffing during rush hours
  • Expanded use of variable message boards for motorists
  • Morning rush hour parking restrictions which previously ended at 9:30am will be extended to 10:00 am. Afternoon rush hour parking restrictions which ended at 6:30pm will be extended to 7:00 pm.
  • Additional staging areas for taxicabs and carpooling
  • Exploration of expanded DC Circulator hours
  • Enhanced capacity at key Capital Bikeshare locations in addition to Bikeshare’s special $2 single trip “membership” during SafeTrack

The announcement also included the unveiling of a website detailing commuter impacts and alternatives during the SafeTrack program at safetrack.godcgo.com

We encourage employers and employees to utilize the goDCgo website as a resource in the coming year. Additionally, goDCgo staff includes an award-winning Employer Services team, which provides complimentary one-on-one commuter consultation services for businesses. Learn more here.

WMATA continues to encourage customers to seek alternative travel options during the SafeTrack program. A pdf document of the complete “Safety Surge” schedule is available via WMATA here.

Stay tuned for continued updates from the DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) on SafeTrack and related transportation news.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Neil Albert
